Specialties CNM

Just trying to get some inside info. I am a CRNA that would like to get more education in what I am doing while doing OB GYN shifts. Is there a conference that is renown for being full of education in this field.

You will be placing epidurals for labor patients. You will also be doing spinal anesthesia, and sometimes general anesthesia, for c-sections, tubal ligations, D&Cs. Sometimes scheduled procedures, sometimes crash procedures.

Not sure what you mean by conference.

Sorry. Let me clarify. I work OB and am very competent with epidurals, spinals, etc. But it is very interesting to learn the OB side of it. I do not want to just accept the patient for a C section, but want to understand the genetic, disease, and anatomical issues that are prominent in the OB field. To have a better understanding of the patient I am dealing with. Hopefully to provide more complete care with the team.

I would pick up a copy of Williams' "Obstetrics" and maybe subscribe to AJOG.

The Professional Education Center offers some OB-focused seminars around the country:

Also check out AWHONN, ACNM, ACOG conferences.... I get a whole bunch of advertisements in the mail for "High-Risk OB" seminars that seem to be always scheduled in Maui in February - can't remember which organization puts those on. Those are geared toward OB/GYNs as well as well as OB nurses.

Some states have multidisciplinary perinatal organizations - and hold conferences that appeal to a wide range of health care professionals, on a variety of OB topics.

It depends on what type of information you're looking for - nursing perspective, medical perspective... something in between. You should be able to find it.
