I am working on my application to CRNA school, and I don't have the greatest of scores. My GRE score was 284 and I haven't received my essays back yet. I'm terrible at standardized tests, but I'm very proficient at license exams i.e. NCLEX 75 questions and National Registry(paramedic boards) was 75 questions also. Science and overall GPA of 3.28. Nursing GPA of 3.4. 911 paramedic experience in one of the busiest counties in TN. ICU experience of 1 year, and 1 year of ER experience. I am also a fill in rapid response nurse. Do y'all think my experience will out weigh my standardized test scores?

Specializes in GENERAL.

The fact that you have standards and have applied to a competitive program speaks volumes to me. The GRE is but one component of the selection process. You have experience and drive and in my estimation that accounts for more than some clinical neophyte that happened to have scored well on test day. All metrics pertaining to acceptance should have equal weight with the screening interview prior to admission the deciding factor that evaluates your maturity level and professional demeanor. Don't let anything deter you. There are too many nurses dare I say who have no business in NP school but unfortunately standards in many sectors are lax due to nursing leadership's asleep at the wheel attitudes towards upholding quality standards. Yes some care, but little is done.

So again, glad to hear you are shooting for excellence and not attending the come one come all approach many disreputable schools have set up shop to milk the NP and nursing cash cow.
