Hello everyone,
Fairly new to this site but I've found its a great resource.
After graduating with my BSN at 20 I started working in a medical ICU straight out of school. Although it's not a Level 1 trauma facility, we have a wide range of pt's with vents, pressors, etc.
I've been told for CRNA application it's preferable to transfer to a surgical ICU at a higher acuity location ( level 1 center).
After 1 year when I can transfer, would you recommend transferring to a higher acuity facility and then apply to CRNA school ? I want to be in a setting that's not only going to "get me in" to CRNA school but set me up for success during school.
I greatly appreciate any direction !

Good for you! you have started your path to CRNA at a very young age. Consider gaining ICU experience for 3 or 4 years. You can obtain experience in a couple of units which will be helpful, and prepare yourself financially. It will take a lot of stress off if you enter a program with no debt other than possible undergrad student loan-which you can defer. Having money in savings can relieve a lot of stress if an unexpected expense comes up. With 3 or 4 years experience you will be a very strong candidate and if your undergrad grades are good, you will have a lot of options for which program you choose to attend.

It would also be a good idea to take an organic and physics class as well as a pathophys class as well. this will improve your standing in the application pool as well as get a few classes you will have to take out iof the way. having your CCRN is also a good idea. But the best is the experience of ICU as loveanesthesia stated. good luck and enjoy your time in the ICU I really did love it and look back fondly.
