CRNA Acceptance

Published

I have a question for those who have applied to or been accepted into CRNA programs:

I am an RN grad 2010. BSN graduate 2012. I have had 9 years of nursing: 2yr intermediate care&hospice. 2yr PCU. 4.5yr CCU & CVICU. GPA >3.5. GRE 291.

I applied to two CRNA programs and was told my statistics course, that I took in 2007 was showing up as "not qualifying" because it was labeled "social statistics" with a B grade. Unfortunately this is what was required for my nursing program then and now it's hurting my chances of entering any program. My required chemistry courses were: Chem/Organic I grade : C and Intro to chem/organic II grade: B. I believe I would have to take over Chemistry.

I am looking to know what type of statistics course and chemistry to take in Georgia or any that are available online that would qualify to get into a CRNA program?

Ask the program. They can tell you specifically what they want to see, both in terms of content of the course and acceptable grade.

Honestly, this is a blessing. From your own words your grades have not been very good. That is from easy, Intro courses. It gets a hell of a lot more difficult. Take a few hard courses like stats, pharm, chem, etc, and see if you can get an A. If you can't, I would look in a different direction. Save yourself moving, loans, debt, embarssment, quitting your job, and whatever until you KNOW you are capable of doing the requisite course work.

You need to contact the schools that you want to apply and ask them if there is any Statistics Class online that they would reccomend and accept.

I had to retake undergrad Statistic at Northwest Iowa Community College (online- general statistics) because its expired.

For Chemistry, you really need to have A's (due to your Chem GPA <3.0.) Look up University of New England (UNE, they offer online Chem.)

And also, please consider to take Advanced Classes (Pharm, Patho, Anatomy, Physiology) to be more competitive. Search California State University Domingue Hills. They offered online these advanced classes for non-seeking degree students)

U need to have at least 300 GRE. Its A LOT of work, money, and time but if you really want to be a CRNA, do not take NO for the answer. good luck !

Thank you for such a detailed and helpful response @Liberation. I really appreciate it. As to my other grades... I was in a program in which all sciences and prereqs were taken in the first two years. The last two years was strictly nursing school content in which I obtainted all As in courses with exception of 2 Bs.

A note about my organic chemistry courses- It was a nursing and medical student course. The professor was fired from the University, not to teach medical students or nursing after our organic chem/organic I course.
