critical care PBDS

Published

I am a new grad in a MSICU and have to take the critical care PBDS. Has anybody else taken this? I am a little bit nervous about it, because I had to take the M/S PBDS, but they said the set-up is a little different this time (with the critical care PBDS). I was hoping somebody had some advice for what to look over or how to prepare myself for this. Thanks ahead of time.

You might want to check on the Travel Nurse specialty forum. They might have a better idea.

I've only taken the PBDS one time, and I HATED it. I think it is the most useless piece of testing out there... I did fine on it, but I know for some other nurses it was rather difficult.

I took the PBDS twice before, once when I transistioned from LPN to RN and again when I began a new job in ICU at another hospital. However, I've only taken the med-surg. I didn't know there was such thing as an ICU version. Either way, at the facilities I took this test at, you would not be punished for not doing well. I think they would just work with you and do some more education if need be, but I don't think your job depended on the results. At least thats what I remember the educator saying at the time. I actually liked the PBDS only because (and I know this may sound weird) I like challenges and tests and like reading and figurinig out case study problems. I learned something new both times I took this test, so it did benefit me.
