Creighton Accelerated BSN - acceptance GPA?

U.S.A. Nebraska

Hi there, for anyone who has recently completed creightons accelerated BSN program or has been accepted, can you give me an idea of what your GPA was? I'm a biology major with two Cs (general chemistry 1 and physiology) and two BCs/B- in organic chemistry 2 and biology 2. Both semesters I had some pretty bad personal problems so my GPA fell. The rest of my science classes are Bs with a few As and ABs thrown in, so I'm concerned about being accepted. My application essay is stellar and my work experience and leadership experiences are extensive.

Lastly, for those who applied for the January start date, when did you submit your application?

I didn't have any issues but I only applied to Creighton and Seattle University. Did you take all 3 terms of A&P and both the lecture and lab for microbio?

Interesting, that's good to know. I only took two terms of A&P, but I also took two terms of A&F. I did the lectures and labs for Micro and Chem. Thanks for the info. I'm talking to another school on Monday, so that will help give me a better idea of where I'm at.

I'm going to have to take another Chemistry class this summer anyway to cover the OChem or BioChem prereq, so that would cover the Chemistry I think, and I know I could do the credits by exam thing via Excelsior for the Micro credits, but I don't want to have to mess with all of that on top of moving and the Religion class I'm taking online! If they would accept my A&F + A&P credits I could challenge that as well, but it's all more time and money :-(

Ok. Well it sounds like you should be fine for the Creighton prereqs. I hope it all works out! Especially because I would really appreciate having another Beaver to talk to in Omaha :)

LisaMichelle13,

May I ask why you decided on Creighton over SU?

It would be very odd if there were 3 Beavers in a cohort of 30 something!

It was a really hard decision but two big reasons for me were the length of the programs and the cost, since both schools have good reputations and I know I would get a good nursing education from either.

I applied as a transfer student at SU, so that would have been a 2 year program whereas I'll be done in 1 year at Creighton. That's important to me; I really enjoy school but I'm about ready to get started with a career. Plus there's the fact that it's going to be really difficult for me to be away from my family and my significant other for even one year.

Also, even though SU offered me a good scholarship, tuition would still have ended up costing me much more. Plus Seattle has a very high cost of living and Omaha doesn't. I've always liked the idea of living in Seattle (or Bend, I'm jealous that you live there) but I think it would be better to wait until I'm earning a decent income before living somewhere so expensive. I don't know about you but I have quite a bit of debt already from my first BS.

I have a cousin who did the ABSN program at Creighton and had a good experience, which is why I applied and why I feel really good about my decision. She's now an RN in Lincoln City and she loves it :)

What other schools are you considering?

It's nice to hear that your cousin had a good experience at Creighton! I agree, time is $ at this point. My challenge is being a single parent of a preschooler. I like Creighton because they have child care on campus and offer the option of me coming home for my preceptorship. I just wish they had an arrangement with local hospitals for hiring with loan repayment... RCON, in Kansas City, has that option, I've also applied there. And to MNU, which is also in the Kansas City area. I'm also looking at Shenandoah in Virginia, Louisiana College and Union University. Utica's program in Florida was the school that I heard back from today :-(

I'd rather stay closer to home, but I don't want to wait until the Fall of '16 to start, for many reasons. I don't know how I'm going to pay for it though, because my credit sucks...

I got accepted into Creighton and Seattle University too, I think decided on Seattle university though because I'll be able to stay with family & I know nothing about Omaha ha. Lisamichelle, are you for sure going to Creighton? What helped you decide?

Sorry lisamichelle, ignore my question, I posted that before I read through all the new comments. Haha

I didn't know they give you the option of coming home for the preceptorship! That's awesome, I definitely want to do that.

Yep, I paid my deposit and declined SU so I'm officially going to Creighton! I already have a Blue Jays travel mug to prove it :) To be honest I know nothing about Omaha either! Except that it's much cheaper than Seattle and the people are supposedly really nice :)

Are either of you just ridiculously nervous about nursing school?

I'm extreamly excited! I'm nervous when thinking about all the information we have to learn in such a short period of time though.
