STUDY HACK: Organize your studying according to the competencies tested on the CPNRE.

FACT: Every question you will encounter on the CPNRE is linked to one of those 84 competencies.

There are 3 competency categories you should familiarize yourself with.

There are:

Professional, Ethical, Legal (represents 20-30% of questions on the CPNRE)

Foundations of Practice (represents 55-65% of questions on the CPNRE)

Collaborative Practice (represents 10-20% of questions on the CPNRE)

Here is an example:

FP-7c Apply the principles of infection control.

Topic: infection control

Focus: principles

You want to identify the topic and focus of the statement. Them make a list for review of that topic.

You would basically do this for every competency statement.

Doing this will make sure that you have a solid understanding of what is tested on the exam. It gives you an exact starting point to study and what to focus on. It is a more active way to review the core content tested on the CPNRE. The idea is to build your studying around the competencies and use other books as reference.

It will also help you to better understand the minimum expectations of the beginning practical nurse.

Very nice advice. I am taking the exam for the 3rd time and I have no room for failure this time. Would you suggest I start with the competency category that represents the highest percentage of the questions?
