I've heard decent things about the Chancellor's workshop (not the study guides though I do like the tapes) as well as Excelsior's own. There was another bootcamp type thing that I thought I heard was temporarily not happening any more? I'm leaning towards Chancellor's because it's 'only' a 9 hour drive and is 5 whole days and takes place every week. While I know the theory as to why it's better to get it from the 'horse's own mouth' I also think I need (or at least will feel better with) more than 3 days and am not sure I can afford both (my tax refund is going for the CPNE and one workshop). Are there others out there with decent reputations?
Any specific experiences to share? Aside from the actual workshops, what about hotels, does anybody make arrangements to share rooms to conserve $$$ and if so do any of the hosts help in matching up people who want to share? This also goes for the actual CPNE. Money is the main reason it has taken me so long and ultimately money will be what postpones my graduation too! Every little bit will help.

Hi
I went to a suburb in the outskirts of Indianapolis on /99 before my CPNE. I remember Chancellors was barely setting up shop for the seminar, after buying another company called The Educators in Ky. Needless to say, the workshop was worthless because we knew more than the instructors. However, it was worth it because I got to interact with other students from all over the states. Thus, we practice among ourselves taking turns in playing the role of patients. But, who knows, maybe they got it together after 5 years in business. We stayed in a travel lodge, which was about 20 minutes from the lab. Good luck and remember practice makes perfect.

I finally found last night a thread where a lot of people recommended the careplan workshop, which is the one that seems most within my budget, and mentioned the hotel they all stayed at ... still outside my budget, guess I'll have to find my own resources for hooking up with someone else who'd like to save a hundred or so for the week. I'll know more in about a month when I get my careplan packet and see when I can expect to be scheduled but I'll be looking at the workshop probably early May -- I know if you do it within 3 months of the CPNE and you fail the CPNE you get another week free, small consolation but it helps. I was thinking if I did it far enough ahead (but not too far) that I might be ready for cancellations for the CPNE that might come up in June or July, right now I get a feel for sometime in August for scheduling if I finish my last test in the next week or two. Maybe now is not too soon to look to hook up with someone for a workshop!

Laurie...hey I was in the same boat....$$$. I chose Chancellors CarePlan. I stayed in Studio-6 (very reasonable) ate lunch-tv dinners at Chancellors Lab and lounge (very nice)and the 5 day workshop was excellent. They totally prepare you for the CPNE. 92% CarePlan clients pass CPNE 1st time, versus 61%. I was well worth the money for me. I work with several people who did BOTH workshops and said they got their monies worth from Chancellors. One of my CarePlan fellow students for the week, now teaches there for Chancellors after completing CPNE. When I did CPNE 3 of us went to CarePlan and we were the three with no repeats and out the door Sunday morning. Hope that helps...

I took the EC workshop in Albany and thought it was pretty good. It is now a 3 day work shop. The labs they have set up are almost the same as the real CPNE. I guess I recommend taking things directly from EC....but I have nothing else to compare it to. I did learn some things that really helped me pass! NOTHING is more important than knowing that study guide though. I took the EC on-line care planning course and found it extremely helpful also. I passed with NO repeats on anything and was on my way home around 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

Has anyone taken the workshop EC offers for $700? I have been considering that one. I work in acute care, so I think I would benefit from knowing what to expect more then anything...to reduce the stress level. Also, I live in Atlanta and EC brings the workshop here, so I wouldn't have to travel, this is a plus because I have two small girls.
Also, has anyone taken the documentation or care plan online courses EC offers? Just wondering if they are worth the money, $250 for the care plan course and $125 for the documentation course.
Kim,
Congratulations!!
Did the workshop alleviate some of the anxiety/stress for you regarding the CPNE> Also, did it cover CPNE documentation at all? They offer a seperate online course for it, but it seems like it should be part of the workshop. Don't they give you a practice pcs at the workshop to do start to finish?

If you stay in the hotel that EC recommends for either their workshop or your CPNE I know you get a bit of a discount. The hotel in Madison where I took my CPNE was kind of spendy but very nice, but the one in Redondo Beach where I did my workshop wasn't that great. Regardless, I got discounts at both. I think if you can find someone to drive and bunk up with for the workshop it'd save a little bit. The CPNE---- I don't know if you'd want to share your room with anyone. I preferred being there alone to do my own thing.
The EC workshop was great. I highly recommend it to anyone who can go. When I went (a little over 2 years ago) there was a 2 day followed by another 1 day, but they were considered 2 separate things. I don't remember--- was the 1 day for the labs only? I have also heard good things about the Chancellor's workshop. I know one person who went to the RUE workshop and said it was awful.
for the CPNE, not bunking, good idea. I hadn't thought that far really seriously. I'm 99% sure I want the Chancellor's workshop, I would just feel a LOT better with 5 days, and I've heard nothing but good stuff about it (especially since I started this post). Plus it's every week so it will be easier to work into my schedule. And within driving distance (anything under 10 hours is driving distance!) for me. I don't plan on flying anywhere, the closest CPNE will be about 8 hours as well.
I do think I'll start looking for a bunkmate for the workshop as soon as I have a date (about 3 weeks til my last exam!), for 5 nights that would save more than a little bit. I really appreciate all the input.
