CPNE Advise

Nursing Students Excelsior

Hi. I have currently completed all 6 FCCA quizzes, I am just waiting to take the final exams for both FCCA between April 18-24th. I am now looking ahead to my CPNE, I live in Nashville, TN so Atlanta, GA is very close to me the problem is I have not heard any reviews from people who took the CPNE in Atlanta. Is there anyone on here who could shed light on their experiences testing in Atlanta or in GA period. I would greatly appreciate the info. I am planning on taking Sherri Taylor's workshop the weekend before my CPNE.

I just passed in Lubbock yesterday after failing twice in Atlanta. The staff in Texas are far superior and truly want you to succeed . I never felt like the Atlanta staff cared one way or another if you passed. I tested at Southern Regional , then Grady 7 months later. I had to wait longer for Lubbock but it sure paid off. I feel I could teach the CPNE after 3 of them, but now I have passed and know it is possible . I had 3 of the same examiners at Grady as I had at Southern Regional.

Did you test in GA as well? I have decided I will be done with FCCA on April 24th last day to take final and Sherri Taylor has a workshop the weekend of May 20th I am going to go ahead and sign up before it is full, at first I really wasn't stressing finishing I guess because I know I have the time with my school, but my job is now wanting me in a RN position they are holding for me by August.

I would be sure that you let your job know that it's highly unlikely that you'll be done by then. Even if you are ready to test, call and get a soonish cancellation date, you likely won't test until about 2 months after you submit your CPNE app even on the fast side... so that'd put you testing end of June/beginning of July.... which would mean the soonest graduation date for you if you pass your first CPNE attempt would be August 19th. Then you have to find out if you can take NCLEX before officially graduating (this varies by state, I couldn't).

You will hear all kinds of opinions on different sites, because everyone has different CPNE experiences.

WHAT did you not like about the Atlanta sites I definitely want a CE to be fair. I did finally get in touch with some nurses at my job who test at Grady and they too did not have the nicest things to say about it, but one girl said it was really nice and she passed the first time so now I am like ugh. I def want fair

My job waits until you graduate I will just work as a graduate RN until actually passing the boards. I will get two tries at passing the boards before being demoted back down to a LPN 2. So it's not really the license in hand that I need because I have a yr to get that it's the degree that I will need.

I think you are being overly optimistic about your timeline, unless you get insanely lucky with a cancellation date. It's certainly possible to learn all of the CPNE material well enough to pass in three months, but even if you get a July test date, you won't be graduating until late August at the earliest. For 2015, if you finished your CPNE AND all other graduation requirements by July 5th, your graduation date was August 21st. If you finished by August 2nd, graduation was September 18th. I expect the timeline is similar for 2016. Your state may or may not allow you to work as a graduate nurse before you actually graduate. Will your job wait for you if you haven't actually graduated by August?

And all of that, of course, assumes you can get a cancellation date.

Yes I have spoken with my advisor via email and showed my supervisor the emails as well from the message center to make sure I was not giving incorrect information. What you can do is request your transcript in place of the diploma to show you have completed the program and you are just waiting for boards. I fully know 100% it is up to your facility where you work as to if they approve for you to work as a graduate nurse in that facility, basically all you are doing is logging preceptorship hours while still being paid RN psyat that facility , you have twice to take your boards and you have up to 1 yr to take your boards. My facility is very by the board so we have checked and double checked otherwise my supervisor would not have brought the position up to me, nor would she be willing to hold the position.

again this is just for my states I cannot speak on other states

Right- and you'll have to check on the whole GN status. Here, you get to work as a GN for 3 months- you have to take boards within 3 months of being eligible, and if you fail the first time you cannot work as a GN. You'll need to check on that because I believe that is regulated by the BON. I have never heard of a state that will let you keep practicing as a GN if you fail boards the first time... I could be wrong though.

Yes they had checked with the board and the facility HR and legal dept before the option came up, that's the first thing that was done before I was ever offered the option. They did not know I was in school until they asked why I worked prn and not full time I didn't tell anyone was waiting to completely finish, but when the question is asked repeatedly you finally give an answer.
