I'm hoping to get into Unitek's LVN program (hopefully the LVN to RN) & found out TODAY that I have to take the CPAt exam this Sat. (ie about 33 hours!) The only real concern I have is the math part...Math class was a looong time ago & I'm worried about what to expect. I've been looking online &found some study helps but some seem very in-depth & some less so, plus I bought a study book (Math for Nurses), but if it gets too complicated I'm in trouble! I can do math under classroom circumstances, not worried about that aspect of it, but if the CPAt gets into algebra etc. yikes! Anybody take the test who can advise me what to be cramming for?

Know how to add, subtract, divide and multiply fractions and numbers with decimals.
Know how to find the average of a set of numbers.
It was pretty annoying how many fraction questions there were so KNOW THEM like nothing else (add, subtract, divide, multiply).
Also know the order of operations. They'll give you 3+(5 -7) x 5 (2 -3) for example (this one is not on the test but similar). Just remember to do parenthesis first and than work left to right.
There were a couple of mixed number questions.
100 x 100. I remember that one because I got it wrong. I was thinking "well 10x10 = 100 so 100x100 must be 1000 = wrong! Its 10,000 duh. I tried to skip the work but skipped it without thinking. I went too fast for my own good.
Go very fast but careful!
I did manage to get only 3 math problems wrong and that silly one was one of them.
I was so surprised at how fast you have to do the first grammar part and I actually did the worst on this section even though I was fearing the math part. 60 questions within 15 minutes! Just remember you have 15 seconds per grammar correction! Dont take the time to rewrite the sentences in your head (I did and found myself only 3/4 done with the test at times up). Needless to say I got a hefty number in this section wrong but passed first time.
The college didnt care what position I was in for "best score"...only that I passed.

hi vegasvicki! i just took the cpat on tuesday. i won't know my results until next week, but i did the same thing you did except on the math section. i had 5 more questions left whenever time was called, so i just guessed on those. i feel pretty confident about the grammar and reading sections though. i have to get a 162 in order to pass. do you think i still have a chance at passing even though i had to guess on the last 5 questions of the math section? thanks in advance for your help!! :) i just really want to pass the first time because if i fail i have to wait 60 days before i can take it again.
