Covering your Earned Time Off

I work 7 on/7 off..72 hours. I accrue ETO, but we are not allowed to take any ETO days on the week-ends without covering them ourselves. Since we only get 2 week-ends off a month, most people do not want to work their week-end off to cover (which I understand completely). I am just curious to know if any of you have to cover your own ETO, or what is your hospital's policy. Thanks for any imput.

We have to cover our weekends also, and you also better not get sick. If it is your weekend to work and you get in an accident on Thursday and are out until sometime the following week (happened to a coworker that ended up as a patient on our own floor due to the accident) be assured that you will make up the missed Friday/Saturday/Sunday within the next month on one of your off weekends.

We also cover our own weekends. I have asked around to other hospitals because I thought we were the only ones who have to do it this way, but it sounds like everyone covers thier own:(

Well even tho I am still not happy about it:angryfire , I do feel better knowing we are not the only hospital that has to cover their own earned time off:o Thanks for your responses:)

we can get 1 weekend a year covered for us- the rest we have to arrange ourselves.
