Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing in response to an announcement recently posted on the ____________________. I am a recent graduate of _______ and received my BS in Nursing from the _________ in December 2013. I am currently employed as a registered nurse on a telemetry/orthopedics/trauma floor.
While in school, my clinical rotations enabled me to work in several settings, including home care, medical-surgical, critical care, and emergency. In my current position as a floor nurse I am committed to providing the utmost level of care and comfort to all patients. As an enthusiastic new nurse I've had the opportunity to sharpen my ability to think and act under pressure, allowing me to play a crucial role in fast-paced, patient-centered environments. In addition, I have developed strong prioritization, time management and delegation skills.
Although still a novice, these skills, coupled with my compassion, patience, and patient advocacy, makes me confident that I am a perfect fit __________________________________. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and discuss the requirements of *****************___________ along with my qualifications in more detail. I'll call you next week to schedule an interview time and date. In the interim, I can be reached at _____________________
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
_______________

Your cover letter should be more concise. I would also call and ask for a name to address the letter to. Sometimes you will get a name, sometimes you won't. It's worth a try.
More importantly, look at that organization's values as well as the job description and pick two or three key points to briefly highlight. Why should they hire you? Have you had any charge nurse experience? Taken on any leadership roles at school? This is what hiring managers want to know.
I would avoid telling any employer you're the perfect fit. I realize that some cover letter samples say this, but in reality, very few of us are "the perfect fit", especially if your nursing experience is minimal.
Instead, I usually say something along the lines of "this is how I can meet your needs..." Then I bullet two or three attributes: leadership, professional development, advocacy for example, and explain how I personally demonstrate these qualities.
I hope that helps.
