Counted as "work experience"/ "nursing experience"?

Hi! I have heard that being a company nurse here in the Philippines is not counted as "work experience"/ "nursing experience" if you're going to apply in a hospital (as a staff nurse) or other countries..

can anyone help me in what other fields or settings is it counted as "work experience"/ "nursing experience"?.. Is being in a clinic, specialty clinic, school nurse, etc counted as "work experience"/ "nursing experience"?

Specializes in ICU.

Depends on the country and position that you are applying for. But of course, if you are going to apply in a hospital settings, those said experiences are technically not counted. Volunteer experience is also not counted in Mid-East. Some countries though accept the clinical instructor experience for hospital as long as it will indicate the area/rotation where you supervise your students, plus the number of working hours and your job description.

You can always ask your agency as to what experience they considered.

Specializes in Neuro-Surgery, Med-Surg, Home Health.

Year 2000 there was a "severe" shortage of experienced RNs here in California and the rest of America.

Year 2012, with the global recession and so many Americans out of work and have lost their medical insurance in the process, there is now a "severe" oversupply of nurses.

I am not exagerating. Hospitals can pick and choose only the best and preferably already with local (U.S.) experience.

We did not hire a nurse who immigrated from another Western Country simply because he did not have local experience. Sorry to say, but why should we train a foreign nurse when there are literally tens of thousands of experienced American nurses looking for work?

Simply because the employer is a hospital, not a corporate office. With the nursing profession having various fields, a hospital in need of operating room nurses will definitely not accept a nurse with only ICU experience.

It all comes down to the job description. It's what you do that makes an ICU, dialysis or OR nurse different from you.
