I have an ongoing problem of counselors emailing teachers student medical Dx, lists of meds students are on and informing teachers that students are hospitalized. The counselors probe students to get this information. I have told them for years this is a FERPA violation. I am now being mocked by the counseling department about my concern of privacy. I am looking for documentation I can present to Administration to show that these counselors are not acting in the best interest of the student or the school.

I think that a certain level of appropriate information sharing is necessary. This doesn't mean the file is an open book, and you are right, there is a level of decorum that should be followed.
We have parents sign off on appropriate shaping of medical info. There are a few that don't allow it.
