Cost of getting WOCN Wound Care Certification

I'm not going to lie, it's a pretty expensive certification. Roughly 1500 per module. If you decide to get certified in wound, ostomy, and continence you will actually put out 6 grand because you need to pay the same price for the professional practice module. I paid 500 for a week with one preceptor, the second didn't charge me. I think the schools all charge about the same? Some of the programs require you travel to them and complete a bridge week. Bridge was included but you still have travel and lodging expenses. In the long run it's worth it!

I got certified online by taking a course from woundeducators.com it was less than $800 and was online. It was a great course and I highly recommend it. Their course will prepare you for any wound care certification not just the WOCN

CWONGal did you do the online course or went to the regular school? I saw webwoc cost about $2500 per specialty, was wondering how much does the other online courses cost. How does the preceptorship work? Does the preceptor take you to their workplace and you shadow them? Thanks for your input!

Thanks mward2, I originally wanted to take that course too but I heard the CWON is more widely recognized. Did u eventually take the wound certif course?

Hey Lightmyway, check out Emory University. It's cheaper than webwoc based off of what you told me and Emory has a phenomenal reputation and has garnered a great deal of respect at many hospitals. My hospital was looking for Emory grads in specific. I did their distance learning program and now I am back with them to get the continence certification. You find people in your area who have the certification and see who could precept you. It's 40 clinical hours per module. Then you have one week in Atlanta with the professors. It is a huge time and $$ commitment but well worth it. They also have scholarships. Have you spoken with your work to see if they have any financial assistance? Some hospitals will pay for it all (they may require a time commitment from you in return). I fortunately will have my last module paid for after completion. They are paying for testing, too.

I paid for everything myself, roughly $8,000, at the time my hospital provided a $2000 tuition reimbursement, but that program disappeared. My preceptorship did not charge, as they were in my system. It was a good investment from my standpoint. I love caring for these patients, and the autonomy in my practice. Good luck to you. I went through webwoc, and they prepared me well for the exams (3).
