Has anyone recieved corrective action for smoking on a non-smoking campus, and if so what happened?

I haven't know of anyone who did. I guess they would be reprimanded first with a verbal warning, then suspension?

I would assume this would follow the disciplinary guidelines set forth in the employee handbook. That is the first place I would go for answers.
We are a new non-smoking campus and several of the staff a not doing well with not smoking. Several have recieved a verbal warning, the next step would be a written warning, next is 3 day suspension and last is termination. We are a union facillity, and the union recognizes the hospitals position and corrective action for this transgretion. I

My friend and work colleague was caught and reported to the head of our directorate, for smoking on site, during a shift. It was not taken lightley, it's now down on her record that she went against the rules.
I feel for her predicament, I too am a smoker, and there are times during the shift, day or night, when I am Dyin for a puff, but, I just cant, so I dont. 13 hrs is a long time, but I have a cig outside the gates, in my car, prior to shift start. As soon as I am out the gates again, in my car, I savour that puff before driving the half hour home. Thats my habit.
Chocolate is a distraction......I have gained 14lbs since Christmas, and look every inch of it. But my lungs feel better, even is my rear end does not!

I find it slightly comical (sorry to suffering smokers) when the students on our campus are "busted" by my dear office-mate smoking just outside of the doors with our office window just a few feet away. The campus was in the preliminary movement toward going smoke free and made a rule that you must be 50' from the building. We put up a sign in our window that read "WE MONITOR BUTTS", and then she would knock on the window, shake her head and point to the sign. The students would give her a sheepish look and put the thing right out! I don't know...it just always made me smile.
We never were clear on who we would call to enforce this...the poor maintenance staff?

i think it would be helpful to offer nicotine patches/gum for those who are trying to adjust to these new restrictions.

Our facility gives you a formal write up, and then supposedly a termination. I do not know of anyone that has been fired.
That being said, the patients smoke all over the campus. They even sneak and light up in the public bathrooms inside the hospital!

Our hosp went non smoking a few years ago, staff are known to still sneak out at night --during the day they just take a 15min break and go drive across the street.
It is a lot of work and stress for a smoker to get that smoke break--me being one of them. Our policy states immediate termination for the 1st offense---even though I know of no one who has ever been officially caught.
I always say if I am getting fired it is going to be for something bigger and better than smoking..
I find the new cinamon Nicorette gum a good alternative, but if you chew it too fast you will get a wicked case of the hicups(an actual side effect) I also have been known to take a sudefed, dont know why but I realized once that when I took one I didnt crave any cigarettes till like 4am..maybe it is mind over matter but it works for me.

In my facility, our policy states that you cannot smoke within some ridiculous amount of space from the end of the campus; like only 1000 feet off campus property. I find it funny that the hospital thinks they can monitor and give discipline for smoking on public property across the street that they do not own...

This is what happened in NJ when restaurants went smoke free. The 25 foot ban from the door was impossible! So they altered it when people started standing in the middle of busy streets...It was pretty funny to see!
