Wow ... just wondering if anything like this has happened to you.

Been there...done that!!! Had a MH I/M to attack me from the back with both fists to the head neck and shoulder, and then the inch long fingernails into the back of the neck up into the scalp. I didn't have a clue until it was over. Thank God for the 4 officers that pulled her off of me. I didn't miss time at work, but I did hurt for several days.

Definitely don't want to do it again, but this was the 1st time anyone had laid a finger on me in the 10 years of corrections nursing that I have done.:pumpiron:

Ouch!!!! I'm starting in a local county jail this coming week....any suggestions....As in all nursing...I've always felt the safest way to handle things is keep your eyes open and your mouth shut....anything to add to that for me....and yes, I'm nervous...the turn over where I'm going is constant....

Susan, Basically just do as you said. Just remember that they need to know nothing about you or your life. If they start asking questions, you stop them fast and hard by saying that is none of your business, or i don't have to tell you that , or don't ask me questions unless they pertain to your sick call, or something that puts them down fast and back in their place. If they tell you that your hair looks good, don't tell them thank you and don't just not answer either. You get loud and say something like, officer, did you just hear the personal comment that he made to me? or tell them, that is inappropriate and you will report him or something like that. If they every get into your mind, then they can and eventually will have your job. I have been doing this for over 10 years, and I have seen thousands of games that they play, and several to loose their jobs because of inmates that have nothing to offer. They don't care what happens to you, only that it has helped them!! Good luck...don't be mean...just be firm, and you will be fine.:pumpiron::welcome:

Thank you to all of you who have replied to my many questions and comments about correctional nursing....

Give some ideas on .... being played .... I think the one about "your hair looks nice" is an example of being played....would that be correct??

Not to much moves me, being the mother of four sons....I've heard and seen it all.... 18, 21, 23 and 25 and still able to push my buttons....

Before going to nursing school, my wish was to become a Funeral Director....so what I may see and what I may hear doesn't worry me...it's that person down inside of me that cares to much....the nurse that wants to make everything better....how do I turn her off? Ihave no desire to be anything to these people except a great nurse...someone who will listen to what they have to say concerning their sick call....but the rest, I don't want to hear it and as the last quote said...."If it ain't about the sick call, I don't want to hear it"....

and I have to ask this question.....Should I or should I not wear my wedding ring?....I prefer to let everything about me be a mystery...I don't want these fools to know a thing about me....
