So, I'm wondering what the diff is between a nurse who works in a correctional facility and a nurse who works in a hospital despite the obvious. I am a new grad and am wondering if i'll lose my skills starting out as a nurse in a corrections facility and i'm wondering the difference in pay, too. I live in California and I have an interview lined up next week for a correctional facility in Fairfield. I also am applying to the San Diego County corrections facility. Any advice??

Coffy25 how long did it take for a call back after applying for a job at the Vacaville Prison? I applied the other day and I am a new grad also. Thanks and good luck.

I just recently applied myself to a state prison and was told the process takes 6-8 weeks. I would be notified by phone for an interview and by E-mail once the position was filled.

Hi there,

I just started corrections last week! Have been orienting and omg...I hope I remember what to fill out and where it goes and what to sign lol. I have some anxiety myself about dealing with withdrawls and what a patient looks like that is about to go bad but I think I'll figure it out. No longer worried about inmate treatment to the nurse. I realize now that that is kind of a stigma. Remember the inmates have probably been in a Dr office or health facility at sometime in their life. The work/release inmates I work with see our nurses at McDonalds etc. They are just people. Yes you have to be careful but they are people who made some bad choices. Also the company has very good training about how to behave and prepares you I think. So give it a chance. I am...we shall see

I have been in corrections nursing for about 6 months now, my question is how difficult would it be for me to get a job in a hospital/clinical position? I have heard statements saying that it is hard to transfer from corrections to hospital nursing. I am in the Houston area and would like to work in the surrounding hospitals. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

I have an interview with RJ Donavan prison in San Diego, Ca. I am going through a registry company. Is the interview like a QAP , or are the questions different does anyone know what questions I might expect at my interview? Any information would help thanks.
