I was offered a position from CHC in Ohio. I am so worried about the CTA! I am 57 and not exactly a marathon runner. Do I need to be concerned? I haven't received a start date yet. They are doing background check as I write this.
Jobs in Ohio are really difficult to find, unless one wants to go back to a hospital, or do visiting nurse.
Thank you for any input you may have.

Hey there! I used to work for the ODRC a few years ago. CTA is NOTHING. You spend most of your days in class. The little physical parts you do are running a lap or two around the gym as a class, to warm up. Self-defense tactics, cuffing procedures. There is NO timed running! I assume you were hired into Medical? If so, it's just mainly ethics, inmate precautions, rules and violations. It's a very simple academy :) Biggest advice I can give you is to not let inmates manipulate you !
Thank you so very much! I've been a nervous wreck cuz I'm not exactly in top physical form! Did you enjoy your job there? Does it take awhile for a start date? Yes, its for RN position
Well, start dates vary a lot. I believe they tend to be quicker for medical personnel, though. I was a guard in the chow hall, I got hired in at just 20 years old, so it was rough having a "young" face. The inmates ate it up. I worked there for awhile , then had to leave because my wife went into pre-term labor. It worked out, though, because now I can follow my dream, to become a nurse! I am currently only taking prerequisites , and very worried about clinicals. I know it will be worth it, in the end. The inmates will try you the first few weeks, just stay strong and don't let them get to you. After they see that you are a strong person, they will give you the respect you deserve!
Thank you again for your advice and input! I sooo appreciate it

Did they tell you how long the CTA is for medical staff? I tour an Ohio prison next week and if I get the job will also have to complete the academy and am trying to figure out a babysitter situation ahead of time just in case. I thought it'd be a day or two but from what I understand from the ODRC website is it takes weeks. The CTA is like 3.5 hours away for me.
Hi JessieBay! I am so nervous about this training bit! Its 2 1/2 wks! And Its 3 1/2 hrs from me also! Which prison are you touring? I was hired in Hubbard Ohio at their Supermax. I live in Youngstown,Oh. I just got off phone with the academy, cause I need to make some arrangements also. I think I am gonna stay at a hotel ! No! I cannot afford it. But they have 4-6 women separated by a screen for this training. I am old, and don't know if I can do thatLMAO I'm sure it will be fine. But I don't think I can handle that at my age! LOL I hope you get the job. Please keep me posted. Let me know if you find out anything else. I start the 26th. I work at the prison the 24th and 25th.

Hi Nettie. Are still employed at OSP? I applied to a recent position there. I also interviewed at a CCA prison in Youngstown. It is a low security facility. Have you gone through the training yet? Keep me posted!

Hello! I have an interview with WCI in two weeks and I have to complete the training at CTA, I looked on the websites for the times because I'm trying to figure out a schedule for my little one as well. I only live an hour away from there so traveling shouldn't be horrible. Have you completed training yet?
