  1. Well, start dates vary a lot. I believe they tend to be quicker for medical personnel, though. I was a guard in the chow hall, I got hired in at just 20 years old, so it was rough having a "young" face. The inmates ate it up. I worked there for awhile , then had to leave because my wife went into pre-term labor. It worked out, though, because now I can follow my dream, to become a nurse! I am currently only taking prerequisites , and very worried about clinicals. I know it will be worth it, in the end. The inmates will try you the first few weeks, just stay strong and don't let them get to you. After they see that you are a strong person, they will give you the respect you deserve!
  2. Hey there! I used to work for the ODRC a few years ago. CTA is NOTHING. You spend most of your days in class. The little physical parts you do are running a lap or two around the gym as a class, to warm up. Self-defense tactics, cuffing procedures. There is NO timed running! I assume you were hired into Medical? If so, it's just mainly ethics, inmate precautions, rules and violations. It's a very simple academy :) Biggest advice I can give you is to not let inmates manipulate you !
