Corporate housing

Specialties Travel

Hi there. I am new to travel nursing & am considering booking corporate housing myself for lodging. Has anyone ever used a company that specialties in locating corporate housing? Is it just an unnecessary extra expense? If it is worthwhile, any suggestions on reputable companies?

Like anything in life, the more you do for yourself, the better off you will be financially. Finding housing is work. If you invest in the time to rent your own place, hook up your own utilities, find your own furnishings, your cost of housing will be significantly less. A roommate situation will save even more.

You can pay an agent, either the third party companies that provide medical staff temporary housing or your agency to find turn key housing, but it will cost more (less moola you can put in the bank at the end of an assignment). Depends on what your time is worth. Value added services are luxurious, but it will cost you. If you are a locum physician making $250 an hour, it is not worth it to spend the time. If you are a travel nurse who might be able to save an extra $1,000 a month tax free, it might be worth 10 hours of hassle. It is a rather personal decision to be sure.

First assignment? Just let the agency do your housing first time. It will make your first assignment much more likely to be successful and will be way less stress. Agency doesn't provide housing? Pick another agency (preferably several more). Don't worry so much about money at first. You will be more marketable after a successful first assignment and more knowledgeable about your actual housing needs.

Thanks so much. I just happened to run across one corporate apartment that is turn-key, great location, all-inclusive, etc. If that doesn't pan out I'll just turn it over to the agency. Contract is not signed yet so I won't be doing anything til agreements are finalized. Again, thanks much.
