If anyone out there with experience with the Maryland BON or any other BON can offer me some advice I would greatly appreciate it. Nearly 6 years ago (age 21) I got a petit larcey charge in another state. I basically took something from a department store. Had money & credit cards, could have paid for it if I wanted to but I had been facing some emotional difficulty and basically acted out...I had no previous record, was in college at the time, so basically I got off on 60 hours of community service. I suffered a great deal of guilt and shame, etc, cause this act was totally out of character for me. None the less I put it behind me and have moved foward in life. I graduated college and have worked in my major for the past 5 years. I decided years ago that I wanted to get a second degree in nursing and have been completing the science pre-reqs towards that and have volunteered in a hospital. Last summer I took a CNA class because I wanted to be able to obtain a position in a hospital as a tech, to gain some practical experience. I received my CNA certification from the MBON. Research over the last week has just made me realize that I should have self reported the information regarding the charges. I was under the impression that diciplinary action in which no jail time was served basically did not have to be reported. I guess I was sort of in denial at the time also that the incident was so long ago and just totally not a representation of who I am. With out a thought I did not report the information. Please offer me some advice on what I should do regarding this issue. I would like to come forth and let the board know. I had no clue the seriousness of this matter. I am deeply distressed and would like to do the right thing. Please let me know what the best route to take to let them know this information and what I can expect from this? Thanks.

I am sorry to tell you this because it is frightening. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES talk to the MDBON by yourself. Do not talk to them without a lawyer!! Please pm me. I have dealt with them and do not want to see anyone else go through what I did with them.
CABON is the greatest, fairest, and most honest BON in the country, I believe.
Thank you for responding. I just pm you but it didn't allow it to go through because your box is fulll. Please let me know when you have cleared your box I will send it again.....any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated...Thanks.
Don't know how to clear the box.

Don't give up!! But consult a lawyer first. Just read my pm's.
Oh yes, get a Nurse lawyer. I had consulted several lawyers and they were absolutely clueless about nursing issues. Good luck to you even though you may have a lot of hoops to jump through. You've come a long way, baby!
