Considering Travel?

Specializes in ER, Perioperative.

Hey all. I've been a nurse going on six years now; I've worked primarily in ER, but have also worked in med-surge, CCU, long term care, and outpatient endoscopy. I'm heavily considering going into travel nursing.  My question is though, after working the past year in outpatient I've found I really love the periop process and would like to primarily stick in that specialty. Are there enough opportunities out there in that? Specifically with pre and post op, as I don't have a whole lot of experience in circulating (although one day I would love to do that). Any other info you want to give about travel nursing? Thank you!

ED is your sweet spot, both for unlimited locations you can travel to and money (at least while the pandemic and staff shortage lasts). Pre/post op is entry level, and considering the cycling shutdowns of elective surgery, there are even fewer assignments than available in the past.

OR is fantastic, but you would need at least a year of experience just to survive much less prosper. But do it (as a staff RN) if you think you would love it. I can tell you that in over 25 years in the OR, there is always something new, especially for travelers.
