Considering Nursing - Advice on some great programs

Published

Hi everyone! I have been actively reading many posts on this page and researching and visiting local colleges in my area. I am living in CT. I am 28 years old, work full time in the legal field, volunteer as an EMT, and live alone! I have always thought I'd be a great nurse and am starting my prerequisite courses. I am completing my BIO course next week :)

I am looking for part time programs where ultimately I could gain my BSN, but that has been difficult in CT, but I did come across a college in New York called Dominican College and it has a weekend BSN program. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts, reviews, or comments about that program and any advice along the way if I decided to pursue a part time pathway of ADN to get my RN and then continue with my BSN afterwards. I already have a BA degree in Psychology if that is helpful or makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!!

If you already have a BA, you should go for accelerated BSN, which may take 12-16 months. However, based on your post it seems like you are looking for something part-time. There are a lot of ASN programs that go part-time or on weekends. These usually take 2 years to complete. If you go this route, once you obtain your RN, you can do an online BSN program, which is flexible and you can complete while you work. Ultimately, it is your decision to make.
