Considering moving to Sacramento CA, advice?

Published

I graduate nursing school in one year. I live in TX now, and I want to move to CA. I have researched the cost of living difference, but I think real people can put a better picture to reality than numbers and articles. I really want to get away from the Texas mentality, i figured moving while i am still use to a poor college student's existence may make the transition easier to get use to financially. Any advice about CA, and specifically Sacramento would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I don't know about SoCal. I lived there from 1961 until 1997 when I moved to NorCal. I lived in the Victorville area and then in San Bernardino. I couldn't take it any longer! Traffic, crime people on people. It is as bad as it gets. All the areas mentioned are getting so overbuilt and overpopulated you could walk on top of everybody. Everyone has their opinion of the best and worse areas to live. I find living in NorCal a breath of fresh air after many years in the smog infested south. There are a number of good things about SoCal and I wouldn't want to be one to knock the area. I live fortunately in a very rural area of NorCal about an hour east of Sac and Stockton. I absolutely love it because there are only 766 prople in town. Quiet, friendly, virtually no crime, traffic. Couldn't ask for more. Fortunately i bought my house 7 years ago and today I couldn't afford it. Prices have skyrocketed and my house has tripled in price. There is probably nothing wrong with SoCal, you make it what you want. Oh, by the way I still work in SoCal at the same hospital I have been at for 28 years. I couldn't give up themoney and benes. I travel 450 mile one way to work for 9 days and then go home for 4. Tough life, but I enjoy it.
