Considering LPN school...

Published

Hi, 28 years will be 29 in August. I have a Bachelors degree already and in the process of taking my prerequisites for nursing, only 2 & 1 can be done in the Spring after applying. Was hoping to apply to a BSN program, but I am shy 1 prerequisite.

I am thinking of and probably will apply to an LPN program as well, can't put my eggs all in one basket.

Here is my dilemma and questions.

So I have noticed especially with the hospital currently employed to they are starting to hire more and more LPNs. Noticed about 8 positions from per diem to full time. Oddly enough they seek LPNs for a similiar job I am doing. Friend as an LPN was making $25 an hour outside of the Hospital and still able to work as a tech making $25 am hour part time. Now the hospital I am at will allow LPNS to continue to work as techs while completing nursing school. So I can still stick around with the hospital and work full time elsewhere. The kicker is once an RN you can't work as a tech anymore. More of a kicker if a RN without a bachelors in nursing you can't work at the hospital as a nurse.

This is a trend going around my State and the hospitals in the State. Almost seems smarter to go for my LPN them my BSN.

What's your thoughts on the matter?

Secondly the LPN program is September to December then January to May then September to December and then 2 week's in January. It's 730am to 230pm Monday through Friday.

Thinking of working this schedule at work:

Week 1:

Sunday off

Monday through Thursday off

Friday 3p to 1130p

Saturday 7a to 1130P

Week 2:

Sunday 3p to 1130p

Off Monday through Thursday

Friday 3p to 1130p

Saturday 7a to 3pm

Think that's a doable work schedule and balancing out the LPN program?
