considering attending nursing school abroad

World International

Published

Hi,

I am a US citizen who lives in Northern California, which seems to be one of the hardest places in the US to get into nursing school, 2-5 year waitlists across the board (for community colleges). I am looking into nursing schools in the UK, does anyone have any advise about this. I know it will be alot more money but I am more curious about the process of becomming an RN in the states after being educated overseas. I would also like to eventually do international nursing, any thoughts as to whether this could help or hinder me in anyway? Thanks for any feedback

The UK will be very expensive and I think hard to get into as priority will go to the UK citizens. Also something to be aware of UK training is specialized so will have to arrange with the university that you get hours both theory and practical in all areas. Next you will always be classed as a foreign trained nurse and will have to meet BON/BRN requirements even if endorsing licenses once you are back in the US. The sticky Primer to working in the US should give you an idea on what to do. Doesn't matter which country you do your training in if wanting to work abroad you will always have to meet that country's requirements for foreign trained and if necessary meet language requirements also.

Hope this gives you something to think about
