greetings,

i figure I ask people with experience, seeing as i'm about to graduate with my degree in something completely unrelated (general studies) but i've taken my nursing pre-reqs. i'm considering:

1. Price

2. Location

obvs, a BSN would give me more opportunities but where I live (in MS), an ADN nurse and BSN are paid just about the same. Nothing major in between. The ultimate goal is ICU.

I plan to stay in state because out of state fees are ridiculous, and that's the main reason I am considering an ADN over BSN because of price.

Adns, do you regret your decision? how hard was it for you to get into the area of your choice ? did you have to "prove" yourself because you didn't get a BSN?

The only con I can see to getting an ADN is that they're typically two years over the usualy one year of BSN; and that I have to do a bridge program to get a BSN if i want to further my education.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Sorry it's kinda long.

If you have the opportunity to attend a close-by or within commuting distance BSN program, do that now, and get the BSN degree out of your way. You will save time, money, and aggravation in the long run by completing the degree before you begin your nursing work life.

Im an ADN who recently graduated. Its definitely hard trying to land a job as an ADN where I live and seems that majority of the employers are leaning to BSNs graduates over ADNs graduates. Through out nursing school my instructors told us we'd have to get our BSN eventually anyway so just weigh your options carefully as far as cost, post grad plans, etc.
