Confused on how to know which prereqs to take for accelerated second degree program. Every university accepts different transfer credits.

Published

Hey there! I'm finally keen on starting my journey to an accelerated second degree program. I graduated undergrad in 2012 with a liberal arts degree, so I need to fulfill all of my prereqs.

It seems like every A2D program accepts different classes for prereq credit, so how do I know which classes I should be registering for my prereqs if I don't know which programs I'm going to apply to?

For example, there are two stats classes I can take at my CC. The course equivalency catalog for an A2D at Hunter shows that one of the stats program is transferable, but when I look at Lehman's transfer credits it shows the other stats class. I'm also looking at schools outside of the CUNY system (Pennsylvania, upstate NY etc) and for many of those they don't even have transfer equivalency catalogs.

Any advice on how to know I'm taking the right classes?

Hi there,

I would create a list of all the programs you want to apply to and list all their pre-reqs as well as the recommended courses. You can check on assist.org and their own website to double-check their requirements. Assist.org helps you check the classes offered in your community college that transfer over, and if you have any questions, I would find the email of the programs you're interested in for any specific questions. Hope that helps.
