i'm confused about my chances in the nursing career...

first of all, i'd honestly tell that i'm an engineering student.. i'm actually in my second year but i really am planning to shift next semester for the nursing course.. i'm planning to study law after graduation but i gave up on that decision.. i told my parents that i'm planning to shift because i want to be a nurse.. well, at first my father refused but i told him that it's my choice so he gave in to my decision of shifting.. it's a big step to take since its a risk nowadays to take nursing because there are a lot of nursing students here in the philippines.. i know that it's a very late decision but i was really confused back then, even now.. i've referred my decision to my school friends and they told me "what?!, why nursing of all courses!!" they would all discourage me.. they would tell me that by the time i'd graduate that would be the time that nurses won't be in-demand anymore.. they'd say that taking up nursing is not a practical decision.. it's not easy but nothing is ever easy... the change in my decision is mainly due to the worsening economic and political condition here in the Philippines.. life here is hard... so, i want to try my chances in nursing... not that, i know that if i don't shift i'd regret.. i know i'd be very happy if i become a succesful nurse..

now, i'm really confused if i should take nursing since everyone is discouraging me.. do i have chances?? is it true that by the time i graduate that there will be an overlapping population of nurses so it's likely hopeless for a nurse to go abroad by that time?? please, i need some advice.. i would also like to understand everything about the nursing profession... please.. thank you...

There will ALWAYS be a need for nurses and I don't see the shortage getting better anytime soon. The demographics of our rapidly aging (and living longer) population almost guarantee that you will have a job. Families and friends usually want what is best for us but that doesn't mean that they know what it is! :chuckle If you want to be a nurse, go for it. Good luck! :nurse:

you're right, my family and friends are just worried.. shifting courses is really associated with a confusion on what a person's goals since one can't decide on what he/she wants.. :selfbonk: some of my friends shift from one course to another then they'd end up not graduating.. my parents are just worried that i'd be like some of them.. but it's a very definite decision.. i admit, i just needed some assurance... thank you for your advice... i'm gonna go for it so i'm shifting next semester... :chuckle

Krissy, you said the magic words! - you'd "be very happy if you become a successful nurse." Go for it. I know one of your dreams is to work in the USA as a nurse. There will always be a need for nurses. Do what will make you happy. Good luck.

Dear Krissy,

I suggest that you go for it, its not too late!!! Im sure your very much aware that even doctors in our country are taking up nursing course...its one way to have security in the future.
