Concorde in Portland

I just graduated from the LPN program at the Portland Concorde on 1/20. What do you want to know?

I will tell you that there are some great instructors, and some awful ones.

Clinical sites are not incredibly easy for them to come by so be prepared to go where they send you. I know that this is typical of most nursing programs but when I enrolled at Concorde they did not tell me that the clinical hours could be VERY different then the classroom hours, in fact they told me that they only varied "slightly." There were a few times where they did a drawing and whoever was drawn had to go to hood river for their 10 weeks of clinical that term. The facility was 95 miles from my house, luckly I wasn't drawn. They also did a drawing for PM shift (1:30-10pm) Some people willingly signed up for PM shift but a few were forced onto it.

Those are just a few things that people in my class were suprised by. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

Did you feel that the program was worth the money you paid? Lately the thought of paying around 24,000 for my lpn is starting to freak out, especially because you cant transfer your credits after and my goal is to become a RN. What are clinicals like? Are all clinicals in nursing homes/LTC?

Kristen84 I plan on attending concoard this year. So the LPn program can't bridge over to RN online? Also as far as school hours how does that work? Im going to be working nights 3days a week. Also as far as homework do you get assigned a lot? And is the program hard? Thanks

You can Bridge to RN if you start with your LPN from Concorde. I know there is an exam based program called Excelsior that you could do, or there is a bridge program based out of Longview. The bridge program in longview has an online option but you have to do all the prerequisites somewhere like PCC and you have to actually go to campus for major exams. You also are expected to participate in a 10 week clinical at the end of the online program. Concordes credits won't do much for you except earn you your license.

Summer college is also starting an RN program that will include an LPN bridge, and Carrington will be adding one in the next couple of years so there will be more bridge options in the future. I might do mine at LCC in Longview, but I'm not looking forward to having to do all the pre reqs. However, I'd rather be making an LPN salary while doing it then working as a CNA and waiting for years to get into one of the community colleges RN programs. :)

How did you find out that Summer college will have the LPN bridge? I requested information and the guy over there said when he found out more information I'd be notified. I'm still waiting. haha. This this please me finding out that there will be more bridge programs here pretty soon. I was starting to freak out when places like PCC got rid of there's in like 2010. It displeased me because I had just gotten into my LPN program and had planned on coming right back to bridge there...but nooooo. Lol
