Concieving issues

Published

Hi All I have a friend that e-mailed me a question and I was wondering if you can offer her any advice. This is an area I do not feel educated enough in to help her any further than general knowledge.

QUOTE: "Oh another ?....... what could days long of eggwhite, slimy stretchy CM mean? I know they're annovulatory cycles, but I don't remember if that's from a lack of progesterone. I have had those too. If I'm gonna play cat n mouse with the oB, I want to be prepared. If she can "test" me and bill as something else, I'd be grateful, since we have a 50% copay on fertility stuff. We did inherit a small amt of $ from my grandma, but that should go toward a downpmt on a car that has less than 150K on it rather than "alphabet soup" fertility stuff."

She has a still birth six months ago and is desperate for a baby. She is in her 30's and believes she has problems with ovulation. Got any ideas?

Thanks,

Cher

From one who is all too familiar with fertility issues, the CM your friend is experiencing is normal. If it's stretchy (spinnbarket, pardon my spelling) is good. It is a sign of ovulation

Does she experience lower abdominal pain on one side or the other when she notices the CM occuring? That's another sign of ovulation occuring.

If she's trying to get pregnant, my doc told me that your best bet is to have intercourse every other day from day 10 until day day 21. Her husband will be thrilled, she will feel like changing the locks.

Sorry about her loss. Has she been evaluated by an RE?

As an aside, the 'ovulation prediction kits' weren't useful in my case. Well, nothing was. So hopefully there is a good RE (reproductive endocrinologist) around to guide her thru an amazing difficult time.

Good luck to her.

Thanks! I will forward the information to her. She is using the tests and has not had any luck.

Has your friend tried charting her cycles? I agree with Stitchie: if she has any one sided abdominal/pelvic pain, she may be ovulating. Another way to check is to take your temp every morning before getting OOB. If your temp dips and then rises, it is a sign of ovulation. She can get some info on charting at Fertility Friend or check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler (sp)-this is a fantastic book for anyone ttc!

I'm so sorry about your friend's loss. I can understand her desperation to get pregnant again. My first child, a little boy, died July 2002 after being born at 32 weeks and living for 12 days (he died from CHD). It took me 2 years to get pregnant with him. We started ttc again in Dec. 2002 and after almost another 2 years, we got pregnant again. We now have a beautiful, healthy daughter that is 3 months old. It was difficult to get her here and we love her more than anything, but we still, and always will, miss our little boy.

Congrats on your baby! I do believe she has that book and had tried all those things. It really seems to me thathe needs to go to a speacialist because this seems to be beyond our scope of education.

Thanks for the thoughtfulness of your reply!

Fertility Friend

that is a cool website. I think we might try to use it down the road (I am the one who asked about taking Clomid and you guys advised to talk to a RE about metformin for PCOD... cannot afford tx right now while in school and NO job... but thanks for the info anyway).

Also, I think that we have resolved to not do fertility drugs. If we are meant to have another child, we will, it will happen. If it is not in our future, I don't want to go through the heartache of trying to MAKE it happen.
