I applied to LPN school at the beginning of the year. I found out at the beginning of June that I was accepted. I had orientation and a healthcare criminal backgound check today, you know, where they take your finger prints. I'm in my mid-30's now, but I had some roaring 20's. I was arrested a few times with dui, public drunk, and a few other misdemeanors. I've never been convicted of a felony. I'm so worried about this background check. Has anyone had a similiar experience?

I have not, but your question is best directed towards your chosen school and your state requirements. It is my understanding that certain charges bar you altogether. No one here can give you the final word on that.

I would bring this up to your school. Two of my friends had to leave the program due to minor offenses from years ago.

Please check with your school. In addition, check with your State board of Nursing. I know someone who was allowed to complete the program by their school but was not able to sit for NCLEX and be licensed. Talk about a waste of time and money.

In PA if you have two or more misdemeanors you can not sit for the NCLEX but schools will let you in, all the while knowing you won't actually be able to become a nurse because of them just to get your money.
