Complete Frustration

Published

I waited 1 year to get into physio, another year to get into micro, and then waited 2 years to enter the nursing program. I completed a very tough nursing program with many ups and a couple of downs and a constant stress level to graduate last December with Honors. My excitement was very short lived as I studied for the NCLEX-RN I took 6 weeks and went over 200 questions a day and another 2 hours of reading and I also took the Kaplan course. The test...very hard, so hard to predict the results. I would have bet money that I failed, but by some miracle(felt like one) I passed....OK so very excited...for about a week I was on cloud 9.. then the job search, I put out at least one resume a day, and have fallen into a pattern of online searching and applying, calling, trying to network.....and not one phone call, not one email returned, nothing. I am not trying to depress or dishearten anyone. This is something I wish I had read. During school all I heard about is how I would be offered many jobs before I graduated. This is not my reality and from what I have heard not the reality of ANY of my classmates. Talk about a serious letdown. I wish you all the best, and I apologize if this sounds negative. On a positive note: The pendulum swings both ways. Oh and here is a proactive solution: Write your local congressman, let them know how hard you have worked and what your hopes and fears are.

Well good luck all , I am back to the internet to search for a job wish me luck!

I totally understand your frustration...I am graduating this May, and have put in so many resumes its hard to keep count. Even the hospital I'm teching at is dealing with "hiring freeze" due to the economy. Everyone says there are tons of jobs out there BUT not for new grads UNLESS you're willing to work on the med/surg floor. I think I may have to lower my expectations and accept whatever position is offered just to get experience.

Well, good luck to you and I really hope you find a job soon....

I'm still a pre-nursing student, so I'm just wondering what it is about med/surg that they would only have openings there? Do most nurses want to work in other areas? I ask because I feel like that's an area I have interest in.

Thanks in advance!

In part it depends on what area of the country you are in. Our grads aren't having difficulty finding jobs so far, but I hear our unemployment is also rising :(

You can't even get Med Surg here! At this point I'd take anything...I also extern and the VA hospital and they don't even have any openings!!! I feel your pain...May is getting closer and I'm nowhere near finding a job.

Not everyone hates Med Surg - you'll never know until you try it! :D

I can't find any jobs, including med-surg. I am calling and applying to SNF's and have had no luck. Lets just hope that the economy will start to improve soon.
