In our nursing program, we've been told about community nursing and we even had a class about it but I'm still not sure exactly what this means. I'm not talking about home health nursing. I suppose that I am refering to clinics? Is there any sort of certification or qualifications for community nursing?

we did community health nursing in my bsn program. community health nurses are involved in follow up of testing that is done for communicable diseases such as hepatitis, lead screening, hiv testing that has been done at the community clinics. for example, if a child at a free clinic has a positive lead test come back, it is referred to the community health nurses who pay a home visit to check out the home for possible sources of lead contamination and teach the parents how to protect the child from further lead ingestion. if a restaurant worker tests positive for hepatitis it gets referred to the community health nurses who visit them, follow up and teach them about their disease and how to protect themselves from getting it again. their job is to protect the community from community outbreaks of diseases and their function is primarily teaching and immunization. they work closely with the public health departments. they are usually employed by state or local governments.
