Community College Student Transfer to University Nursing School

Published

Greetings everyone! I am a sophomore at a community college in Michigan. I currently have a 3.91 cumulative grade point average. I want to transfer to a university and major in biological sciences, because I truly want to become a physician or a physician assistant. However, I'm also strongly considering a career in critical care nursing.

There are three nursing schools that I want to apply to--U of M (AA) SON, WSU SON, and GVSU SON. With the exception of three courses (Developmental Psych, Intro to Organic and Biological Chemistry, and Microbiology), I have fulfilled most of the nursing prerequisite requirements. And as an added bonus, I earned 4.0's in each of those classes. The lowest grade I earned in college is a B+. I earned that terrible grade in General Biology II last semester. Last semester was rough for me because I had a hospitalization and a long course of IV antibiotics for mandibular osteomyelitis.

Furthermore, I have volunteered 60.5 hours (and counting) at my hospital's acute care of the elderly unit. I am a patient care volunteer and I love it. The patients, families, and staff make what I do worthwhile. I'm also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, I am a college work-study employee, and I volunteer at college events from time to time.

So... what are my chances of getting accepted into a university's nursing school as a transfer student (if I continue to earn 4.0's in every course)? I am very passionate about helping others and I love science .

Thanks everyone!

Ask the schools what they consider for admission and how the average accepted applicant stands in relation to these criteria.
