I'm a high school student wanting to major in nursing, but not wanting to go $80000 in debt. I'm considering community college, primarily joliet junior college in joliet, il. If i do attend community college then I'll be able to buy my own car, therefore I'll be able to have transportation to clinicals my junior/senior year. Has anyone else taken their prerequisites at community college then transferred to a four-year university for their BSN? Any advice?

I did the same thing you did and now I'm a junior at a four year college and in my first term of nursing school. I spent one year at a community college and transferred my sophomore year. However, I will be graduating a year later than I should be. This isn't necessarily because of going to a community college, but because I didn't take the right courses. I wasn't sure what nursing school I wanted so I couldn't work with my counselor to create a good plan for me. My best advice would be to know exactly what nursing school you want to transfer to after community college and work very closely with their requirements. Make sure the courses you take at the community college transfers to the school you are looking at. If you do this, I think it would be a great idea to save money and buy a car.
