Hello fellow nursing students,
I just successfully completed my first semester of Nursing ADN program and next up in January is OB, Newborn. And so my question to any of you who have completed this rotation is would you be so kind as to share any common meds and diagnosis you happened across in the clinical field for these areas? They were to have given us a list of these things before we were done, but did not and I figure if I can possibly get a head start over break by getting some of these Med and Diagnosis cards out of the way, things may not be quite as hectic next semester.
TIA for any and all info!!!

see the ob weblinks on this thread:
in particular, go to the first listed website, brookside press. they list the commonly used ob meds as well the common ob complications. the site includes videos.

Just finishing up my OB/PEDS rotations, THANK GOODNESS> lol.
As far as diagnosis in OB...... A LOT of PIH (pregnancy induced hypertension), Gestational Diabetes, participated in a fetal demise (EXTREMELY SAD), unfortunately we saw more than imagined "addicted" infants born (still makes me angry), BUT on the brighter side we saw TONS of healthy pregnant women give birth to VERY HEALTHY and HAPPY babies.
Now for PEDS, you will wear more masks and gowns that you can imagine, RSV (at least in my area of Florida) is like wild fire. Lots of Diabetic kids, we have seen several with UTI (urinary tract infections).
Now, meds......
Vancomycin, Zithromax, Gentamycin, Xopenex, Albuterol, Solumedrol, Pulmicort, Zantac, Nystatin, Lovenox, Fragmin, Lantus, Novalog, Pitocin, Zofran, Methergine, Bicitra, Percocet, Reglan, Ancef, Penicillin, Clindamycin, Nubain, Morphine Sulfate, Mylicon, D5LR/LR, Ampicillin, Stadol, Hemabate, Cervidil, Fentanyl, Ephedrine, Ropivicaine, Bupivicaine, Duramorph, AquaMephyton-phytonadione, Balmex, Hepatitis B vaccine, Erythromycin ophthalmic ointment, Colace-docusate sodium, Darvocet N 100- propoxyphene, napsylate/acetaminophen, Dermoplast spray, droperidol- Inapsine, Dulcolax- bisacodyl, Lansinioh, Meruvax, MMR, Motrin-ibuprofen, Nupercainal, Phenergan- promethazine, Rhogam-Rh(D) immune globulin standard dose IM, Senokot S- sennosides w/ senna, Toradol-ketrolac, Tucks Pads, Tylenol-acetaminophen, Dalmane- flurazepam
Phew...to name a few
