U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hello,

Is anyone applying for 2009 at CCP? Does anyone know when the mandatory info session is?

Thanks! GL all!

Hey there,

I applied there for this semester but was rejected due to not having atleast 12 credits... Passed the test tho!! The workshope are given almost every day from OCT 1 until Jan 15 i think, you can pick up a paper at any advisor office..they are usually posted and you pick out a date..and just go..no need to sign up or call. just pick one of the days and be there..ON TIME. Basically that workshop is to tell you all the requirements and explains about the program about how hard it is and how they accept 140 students, explain about the entrance exam and the scoring system. Also about the point system (how they base accepting applicants) 9,8 usually get in right away, 7 maybe...6 forget it and so on. then they make you sign a major "change" form that will submit your major for nursing. its only about an hour but mandatory. After you submit your nursing major change, about week later they will schedule you for the entrance test. then after the test, youll wait a week and in order to get your results, you have to go to main campus and meet with an advisor, you have to get atleast a 15 on it to pass. They will let you know by March 31 if your accepted or not...good luck!!

LOL i am not sure if you wanted all that but if you have any more questions please let me know, good luck to you!!! its a great nursing school! im almost done there now!! (not nursing program...my pre-reqs) on my last 4 classes!! woohoo!

Rachel

Thank you. So the "workshop" is actually that "mandatory info session"?

Yep. it is mandatory to be able to get an entrance exam set date. Good luck!!

I just did the info session today! If you go to W2-2 they have a sheet of the October times for the info session.

One thing that was really good to know is that if you fall in to more than one of their evaluation categories, you can pick which one you want to be evaluated in.

yes, you have to attend the information session. I went to the Oct 2008 session, this is where you can change your curriculm to nursing from liberal arts. They go over all the points you need to become a possible candidate of the program. Helpful!! Then you get placed on the list to take the allied health test. It is compiled of math, science and language usage with a written essay. I'm scheduled for the AHT on November 10th, 2008. I have been studying 3 different books for preparation. If you have any further question send me an email [email protected]

do you remember what was exactly on the test?

I am so confused... I thought that CCP was supposed to be a two year school, but including our prereq's won't it be more like three??

Hey,

Yes ccp is a 2 year school but there have programs that are a certain amount of time to complete. so you can take 2 years to complete the pre-reqs but then once accepted into their program its 2 years..so in total 4 years at the same school but you are actually in the nursing program for 2. come out with a degree.

Thanks for answering my question, Rachel. Are you enrolled in CCP right now? If so, are you doing the prereqs or are you in the program??

In theory you could do the CCP program in 2 years if you apply straight from highschool and have taken chemistry and biology in high school. The rest of the sciences courses are technically integrated in to the program, but since you apply a year in advance of the program, and since many people looking at the school are returning/older students who either didn't have much science in high school or it was too long ago, many people spend time before hand doing the prerequisites.

I've heard that it is much better to complete the science classes first, because even though the nursing class is 7 credits, it's a lot of work.

My grades before CCP were alsp really bad, so if I hadn't taken the prerequisites here to bring up my grade I wouldn't have stood a chance of getting in.

I agree about completing the supporting courses before starting the program. I'm at CCP now taking Sociology 101 and Nursing III right now, and its a lot, so I imagine the science courses would be much tougher to handle.

Granted I'm also doing other things (working half-time, and raising a 3yo and 3mo old) but I am struggling, passing, but struggling.
