Coming off Active Duty, looking for new specialty

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have been an RN for 6 yrs now. All of my nursing experience is in ER. I am also in the military and have been on active duty for 2.5 yrs now. I received injuries while in Iraq that caused me to have a L5-S1 spinal fusion and now I cannot go back to the ER. I am a couple semesters away from getting my BSN. I am just trying to get a feeling for what is out there for nurses that cannot be moving and picking up patients all day. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If you've got an outgoing personality you might consider working as a clinical research nurse. Not for a drug company but for a local doctor. BSN is mandatory but believe it or not most patients that volunteer for clinical research studies are ex-miltary. Go to your local college that has a medical school and find HR. Doctors that do research post job openings through the campus and not at the hospital. There are other interesting jobs posted there as well. Good Luck.

Thank you all for the advice. It is much appreciated. I will look into those jobs and see what is in my area and what fits my personality and physical limitations.
