I'll be graduating with my BSN in 2011 and I'm a bit worried because people have been telling me that the Columbus hospital job market is saturated and it'll be difficult to find a job?
I'm looking to apply to Critical Care or Trauma positions and when I look on the hospital websites I see openings but folks are still telling me that just because they are posted doesn't mean they are hiring.
Will I be a jobless grad with tons of debt?!

I can't predict the future, but if things continue as they are...yes. I graduated in December, took boards at the end of March started looking in April and landed a job in LTC in June. No hospitals are hiring, I'm still applying and still getting the standard email rebuff. Start looking now. I wish you the best!!!!

I relocated from Toledo to Cbus 2 months ago, and still haven't found a job. University Hospitals won't hire without at least a year of experience, unless you are in their internship program. It sucks to be a nurse in Columbus right now. I'm only here to pursue my Master's at OSU but I'm probably going to end up waiting tables or something!

I have a friend that landed a job, but he said it was VERY difficult. I know my hospital (Grant) is definitely hiring RNs.
However, I'd be willing to take what you can get. It is very rare to get into critical care without previous nursing experience. I work on a surgical floor and the nurses there said they floated to ICU or trauma after 6 months and struggled hardcore. They are fine with it now, but didn't have the knowledge/experience at that point to handle those floors.

I would recommend you work in the hospital NOW and make contacts, otherwise it will be tough to find what you want.
