Job Market in Colorado

  1. I work for the University of Colorado and am not seeing the job shortage that I've seen spoken of on these boards. Is the job market really bad for new grads right now? All of the graduates I am meeting are getting jobs or residencies at area hospitals. I don't want to be telling students that there are plenty of jobs when there are not but what I am seeing seems to contradict the sentiments here. Thoughts?

I haven't seen it either and I work for both Children's and UCH. I know the new grad programs are competitive though, so that may have something to do with it. The best advice I can give is get your foot in the door before graduation and work as a unit secretary/CNA/etc. Hospitals want to retain their employees especially if they are moving on to nursing.

What would be a good job idea for someone who is making a career change to nursing within the hospital? I will be returning to school for it and would like some previous hospital experience for it just in case we are still dealing with the same issues that we are right now. (I will be going in Denver)

Hi there, it seems like the market in Colo.SPGS. is really tight. I have been an ICU nurse in Level one Trauma Centers for 9 yrs, have applied to Memorial at least for 10 different jobs. Centura is not much better. I lucked out and got a position at Penrose. I think the Denver market is a whole lot better.
