Collin College ADN Summer 2018

Did you get a letter yet?

I haven't received it yet. Will try to check the mail tomorrow

Anyone starting Summer 2018?

Hello you all.

I received the email Friday and my letter last Saturday. I'm accepted and very excited.

I learned a lot from this forum and would like to give back.

It was my first application but I spent almost two semesters training on the PSB. The math killed me so many times.

I obtained A on all prereq and coreq which I think was a big plus. I encourage the students that start the road to focus on their science classes AP 1,2, Micro. I took only one class per semester for them. It takes time but some teachers are so demanding. Some students can combine many classes, other students can't especially the newbies like me.

I also applied to many B plans: LVN at El Centro, Respiratory therapist at Collin and prepared and passed the Hesi required for El Centro while I was doing, failing, and retrying the PSB. After many failures I think that this regimen of multiple computer tests taking prepared me to finally get decent grade on the PSB.

The fact that I was already almost selected for the Respiratory program also gave me the necessary peace of mind to be effective on the PSB. I think that I started consider other program too late. There are RRT, Sonography, LVN, etc, you should not put to much pressure on yourself or you are going to feel miserable.

I have a non scientific Master degree but I don't even mentioned it in my application papers. A first science degree is not necessary to get in.

A last thing to have in mind is to be careful with the withdrawal process for classes. After two withdrawals to the same class, you can't pass it again at Collin. That means that you would need to go to a DCCCD campus for example what could be detrimental to your application to the Collin College ADN because I think they prefer students that have all their classes form collin. In addition some community collleges I apply to ,such as Tarrant College, refuse students who have 2 withdrawals to the same class or more than two attempts for the same class.

It's better to take your time and exploring all your options in term of nursing programs and other health care jobs. Some champions are going to run this application process like a sprint and get in. Others like me ( I took almost four years) , olders, with a family, full job etc, are going to marathon it but you can make it. Now I still have 80 % to go through Nursing school.

matnik, I must say I stay on here looking at posts often to see what I need to do or how to get to where I am going with Nursing. I have a Psychology degree and even though I have ran away from nursing for about 7 years now something has always called me back to it. I too have also looked at other allied health professions and none of them seem to tickle my fancy. My goal is to get into UTHSC Houston BSN-DNP Nurse Anesthesia program one day. I truly appreciate your post, I am a wife, FT employee with a family as well so I understand the meaning behind marathoning this process. Even though I haven't taken the PSB and I am missing AP I, II and Micro I am more determined now to get through this process.

Do you mind me asking if you are considering a BSN? I've read somewhere on Collin's webpage they were approved for the BSN program there but I am curious as to when it will be implemented... Anywho, again thank you for sharing your story and good luck in nursing school.

Cheers!

I received my letter Saturday and was accepted (after much anxiety since I was waitlisted last cycle)! Looking forward to meeting everyone at orientation Friday!

Anybody else still not get their letter...? Mail came but still no letter.

I'm waiting for my letter also. This is very frustrating time to wait

I never received the email and still no letter today also. No news is good news?

congratulations, where you also one of the people that received an email? I was waitlisted last time and have yet to receive a letter

No letter for me also today.... hopefully tomorrow. It seems as though all those who didn't receive an email haven't received a letter yet.

Well I am glad I am not the only one at least, but feel discouraged now feeling like everyone who has received a letter has gotten in.
