Has anyone apply for the BSN program at College of Mount St. Vincent. I wonder was it pretty easy to get in. I'll have all the prereqs done in May 2007. I never heard anyone ever talk about it. I was thinking I might of well go for school for two years to get a BSN instead of a A.S.N. I was trying to find out the GPA to get in but the Nursing Advisor is gone for a couple of weeks.

Hi,

I know two people who went to Mount Saint Vincent. She went there for 2 1/2 years for the second degree program. She told me it was alot of work and if you fail the nursing calculations exam two times, you have to take the whole class over even if you passed the clinical and the class itself. If you fail two classes you get kicked out of the program. She said it was pretty doable since you are not taking awhole lot of classes during the sememster like you would in an accelerated program like mine. You can't take any summer nursing classes as they do not offer it that is why it takes 5 semesters to finish. She seemed satisfied with the program.

My other friend is not satisfied with the school. He said that administration was not helpful at all with him. Teachers are ok. But his big gripe about the program is that he missed the june 20 deadline to bring in his MMR and physical and he got the paperwork from the doctor about 2 weeks later because of insurance problems and they won't let him attend clinicals this sept. They only offer clinicals at the beginning of september not in the spring so if you finish a pre req or something and don't pass by september you have to wait until next september. Anyway, he was supposed to start clinical this sept. and then when he did not hand in his physical they said that he could not start clinical until sept. 07. Never mind that he started in sept. 05 and then went for a year and was originally going to graduate in May 07. Because of this setback, he will not graduate until may 09. So I don't have to tell you that he transferred from there. He can finish faster somewhere else.

So It depends on the persons preference. Many ppl like mount saint vincent, some don't. But that is with all schools. The GPA they want is 3.0 and I think passing is a 78 now I believe he told me.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks so much for responding. I'm completing all the prereqs at BMCC. However I just found out might have to transfer to there school, because since so many people apply, they have to take from there school first. I feel bad about your friend. I wasn't aware its 5 semester, maybe I should consider Wagner. I believe there is only 4 semester.

Hi,

Just make sure that you have a really good GPA for BMCC. They do take from their school first but if you don't have the gpa they want you won't get accepted. I don't remember what classes they look at but I am sure you can do a search and you will find out what classes you should get mostly A's in to be considered for BMCC. I just remember they look at 4 or five classes and that is how they consider you. I know one is English and A&PI I believe. My other friend was admitted but decided to go to Pace University because she wanted the BSN instead. She said her GPA was a 3.7 something for the day program and it is just a little lower not much for the night section like a 3.6. Like I said i am not too sure but the GPA's are around that. If someone else knows they can jump in but like I said, do a search and you will find out. Good luck on getting into a school. It is tough but in the end it works out fine. I am almost done with my program in October, so I know how hard it was to get into a program and get out. All I want to do is go to work and pay back these loans!!!!

Good luck again,

Hello, I am a current student at CMSV and will be a senior this Fall. I am in the second degree program and will try to answer most of your questions. So yes, just like any school Admin can be a pain in the butt, yes the classes are hard but doable with a great study group, you do need to pass you Nursing Calculation (Medication Math) test with an 85 or better and if you fail they give you a second chance. However, you have plenty of time to study for this Med-Math test and they have a great tutor. Ummmmmmm:uhoh3: , oh the program is 4 semesters not 5 as someone else stated and they do offer Nursing class in the summer for 1/2 price, but this does not include the Nursing clinicals. You take classes like Pharm, Health Promotion and stuff like that in the summer. If you fail 2 clinicals your out. The second degree program is small and close knit. I guess if you have any other questions just post them and I'll try to answer them ASAP.

SBUalub03, Thanks so much for responding. I'm not able to apply for the accelerated program. I will have 60 credits by May, however I was wondering since I currently attend BMCC, I know that they probably take there own students first. Is there usually enough room for students like myself to go right into the Clinicals? I'll have a high enough GPA, I just wanted to continue at BMCC for the prereqs since its cheaper.
