Colleague who is fault finding!

Published

I'm new to an ICU. I came from the stepdown unit of the same facility. I am PCCNCERTIFIED, I've been a charge nurse, a preceptor, and mentor. A colleague has been going through my charting looking for errors, went behind my back and told the manager that I'm cocky during change of shift report, and said I interrupted a new nurse during report making her lose her place. It's been 8 weeks of hell.

This all started because my preceptor and another nurse had a conflict about starting report with me without my preceptor. The other nurse cried and of course told her shift about it. Since then I've got a target on my back. Someone is going through all of my charting and reported me for not documenting q2 turning on one patient (2 times during the shift). I'm used to coworkers having your back, if someone missed something we do it or let them know so they can do it as nursing is a 24 hour job. The nurse who I assume sent the email keeps quizzing me during report, states if you don't know the answer then you can look it up.

I had a meeting with the educator, manager, and preceptor. I've been told by the educator that I'll stay on orientation for 16weeks, which is the new graduates track because I'm missing key critical care skills. My manager also suggested that I be aware of the way my face looks during report. My preceptor is livid and my shift coworkers keep telling me they can't believe I'm still on orientation. I can't help, but feel as if I am being bullied.

Things are not looking optimistic in your situation. The bulls-eye is on your back and a poor first impression of you has been formulated. I'd play it safe and look for another place to work if I were you.

I'm trying to lay low... I really want to succeed in the critical care unit. I am hoping to stay off her radar. It's sad when I hear from others that one or two particular nurses are known for this kind of behavior. Being the new and low man on the food chain sucks. Thanks for the advice.
