I'm looking for some insight from those of you who might be in the west. Though I'm in school now, I'm planning for a few years out, when I have my FNP (maybe with a year of experience) and my husband has finished his degree in wildlife biology. We'd love to move West (from MN) and I'd like to get an idea of what the hiring climate might be like. Are new grad NPs finding work, especially in areas that are eligible for NHSC repayment? Are employers looking for 2+ years experience, or 5+ years? I realize that's pretty broad, but I'm seeing a lot of 'new grads considered' with 'experience preferred' and thought I'd check in for some advice / insight.
Thanks!

I can't speak for Oregon or Washington. In Colorado most of the opportunities are on the eastern plains. There are some at clinics within the Denver/Boulder metro area but they are hard to get without experience.
Take a look at this tool which will show you where the listed jobs are;
HRSA - Find a Health Professional Opportunity - Search Page
There are usually that many not listed. Also make sure you look at both the NP category and the PA or NP category as a job posted in one may not be in another.
I would also take a look at New Mexico. There are not only the HRSA jobs but a lot of the Native American and Navajo health service jobs qualify for loan repayment.
