CNA transferring to ICU from med/surg. Nervous.. Anyone have advice or tips for me?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi everyone, I recently accepted a position as a patient care associate in the ICU at my local hospital where I have worked as a CNA on a med/surg floor for about 8 months. I'm currently in my last semester of pre reqs before I can apply for my nursing clinicals. As an RN I'd ultimately like to work in the nicu, or possibly an adult ICU if I like it.. I just know I don't want to do med/surg. I'd just like to hear from some CNA/PCA's who work in an ICU and how you like it. I have been pulled there a couple times so I kind of know how it works, but some of their duties are a lot different than mine on the floor. Like the aides don't do the vital signs or charting and are trained to draw blood and do other things. Also at my hospital we have an ICU, ccu, and neuro ICU all on the same floor connected (sorta) so I'll be working in all 3. And I work nights (7p-7a).If anyone could give me some advice I'd really appreciate it! I was excited but now I'm just getting more and more nervous. I'm so comfortable on my floor and everyone I work with is wonderful. It's going to be very different so I'm a little intimidated. Whenever there's a code in the hospital it's in ICU and I'm not sure how well I'm going to do under that type of circumstance at first. I'm also getting really nervous about the nurses, hopefully they are nice.. Lol. But like I said I'm a student and aspiring RN so I basically accepted the position to learn and try to figure out if it's a place I'd be interested in as a nurse, and if it is my foot will be in the door already. Thanks 😊
