Cna?

Published

I read from these boards that some people go for their CNA license before becoming a nurse (to help pay the bills/gain experience). Do CNA's work in hospitals and doctors' offices or mainly in nursing homes? Are employment rates good for CNA's in NYC (LI and Queens), and do they cover health insurance even for part-time workers? The reason I'm asking is because my main goal is to become a nurse, but I'm thinking of studying & working as a CNA part-time. I prefer to find a job that pays health insurance for p/t workers, so I can finish nursing classes asap and do well in them. Please give me advice/tips. Thanks.

CNAs can work in both hospitals and nursing homes though generally they don't work in doctor's offices, those usually hire medical assistants. The health insurance would depend on the individual employer so I'm not positive. I just moved to NY so I'm not sure about the employment oppurtunities, but usually they are in high demand for nursing homes. In order to work in a hospital they are generally more selective and really want you to have prior experience. It is definitely a great way to get experience while studying nursing. Hope that helps.

hey there, i attended a cna program offered by the li state vets home in stony brook. even though i work per diem, they do offer medical/dental i believe to part time workers. i'm not too sure if that's for every nursing home tho. i suppose u can just call up the places u want to work the most and ask them :)
