I am currently a CNA taking my pre reqs to try to get into RN school
First of all it has gotten very ridiculously difficult to get in. They are requiring an arm and a leg so because that is going on ive decided to take many of my classes of over.
I am a mother of two and a wife to a very supportive husband so time is very constrained.
Being that I took many of my classes over it doesn't seem to be quiet enough for me to get accepted/ I am still chugging along and this semester I decided to take Microbiology and at this moment I can see the RN train leaving the station
No matter how hard im trying or how much time im putting into studying I SIMPLY JUST DONT GET IT I have already broken down many times and ive reached a point where Im considering going for another major.
Please I would like to hear from someone who has or is in my same shoes
Now I know its not easy but this is just unreal
Please and thank you many blessings to you all

The competition and sometimes downright absurd requirements (that are, seemingly, ever-changing) just to get into the nursing program can be very frustrating. I can totally relate with you there. I have a 4.0 college GPA, but because I didn't choose nursing as a major right out of high school, and I have prerequisite transfer credits under my belt, the only program that had space for me was the local community college's ADN program...on the waiting list...in a state that has just about turned all Bachelors-only for hiring.
I can only assume that the powers that be try our patience now so that we have the staying-power once we get into our nursing classes and into the oft-frustrating world of nursing practice.
What part of Micro are you having a hard time with? I'd be willing to help you if you want!

I understand your frustration which is why I opted to go from CNA to LVN and then do the bridge to RN/BSN. Much easier to get into RN programs this way from everything I have found in speaking with RN programs in our area and the Bay Area. Luckily LVN programs are less than a year in length and are a natural progression up from CNA so the workload is not as bad while working from everyone I have talked to who has done it. In addition, many facilities are starting to hire LVN's again in our area. Worse comes to worse, will do LTC or Home Health Nursing or Correctional Nursing as a LVN as I move towards my goal of obtaining the RN/BSN.

I felt the exact same way as you until today. I applied to nursing school about a year ago for the Fall semester and did not get in. I was crushed because I only had one B in my science pre-reqs and one B in my non-science pre-reqs (rest were A's). The community college I applied to had budget cuts so cut down to 32 students twice a year too with hundreds of apps, and I always heard rumers you had to have straight A's to get in. For the hell of it I turned in another application for the Spring 2013, but telling myself no way would I get accepted. In fact yesterday I enrolled in classes at the university to start working on a different bachelors. Well, to my surprise, today I got my acceptance letter to the community college so I know it is possible!
