i plan on starting my phlebotomy course on the 28th this month and i cant wait! well i want to work as a phlebotomist full time and work prn cna at my current facility, because i plan to take the med aide course in jan'10. then i want to get a job as a med aide/cna till i am able to get into a nursing progam and to get to my goal of eventually become an LVN and then RN. i was just wondering if anyone else has done this, and was school easier because of it?? is it possible to get a job that i would be able to do all three skills, without being an actual nurse??
Also another question, are phlebotomist shown how to put an iv?? i dont think so, but i just wondered
OMG, we are gonna do ourselves?? oh god, now i think i remember hearing or reading that somewhere. what if i refuse to do let them puncture my arm? UGH! i can't imagine being poked and prodded for no apperant reason. i mean yeah i guess it would be for learning purposes, but UGH!! i mean dont get me wrong i am NOT afraid of needles or seeing blood. just that for some reason i think it's wierd to be doing that for no medical reason. idk UGH! can i say NO I WILL NOT LET YOU USE MY ARM???? also i just cant help but think that it wouldnt be sterile, i mean i know that it has to be, but that irrational side of me is like "UGH NEEDLES+ME+STUDENTS+UNTRAINED= GROSS AND DIRTY!!! AHHHHH what am i gonna do?!?
I had sort of the same reaction when I found out on the first day in class. It honestly hadn't occurred to me how we would practice. There were 30 of us in the class and they broke us up into three groups, each group had an instructor. In each group we paired up every night and would practice on each other. Everyone would get poked up to four times per night. It's just the way it is, either you let some untrained, nervous, shaky handed student stick a needle in your vein or your don't go to class. I was tempted to skip lol I did get a few extra points for letting one student everyone else was scared of draw blood off me.
As I said, there is an instructor right there, and she is watching and she knows what to look for. If at anytime you feel it's unsafe, you do have the right to say stop.

YES! htat's is soooo freaky, gives me the willies! LOL idk! i was telling my mom how it gives me the willies thinking about it! well today i found out that there is ONLY 4 people signed up so far! DANG! so they are not sure if the calss will even happen, I HOPE SO!! four students would make me feel more comfortable cause then the instructor would be right there and then again im like "wheewwww, i would get out of getting my arm jabbed! LOL. but good think that my passion for learning and becoming a nurse one day is greater then having the willies!! thanx!
